Weeding Wombs

When the world of the Clamberberriennes was cut off from others, their population was destined to die out. Especially when they ran out of men. But the enduring women discovered that the magic skins of the giant Clamberberries, when prepared correctly, could provide them with new generations.
They had already discovered that their spirits became entwined with the powers of the giant fruit monsters when they wore their skins. To their astonishment, they found that they could create special carriers that could be worn in turns between two people who were ready to begin a family. Their life forces entwined within these weeding wombs, and in time, with the magic of the Clamberberry skins, new members of the population were born, and the Clamberberriennes thrived.
There were many sacred rules regarding the use of the weeding wombs. For example, the Clamberberriennes believed that a weeding womb should be shared by only two people; more would result in an unnatural child. But one day, a womb came to them. One that had been lost for generations. One that had been carried not by two, but by hundreds. This was, for them, a bad omen, and a sign that uncertain times were soon to come…
